ANTM's Top Model Tresses feat. Kendal Brown

Kendal Brown
ANTM's Cycle 15 features five black beauties with very different personalities and hairstyles to suit their distinct modelesque features. The girls went from ordinary to extraordinary thanks to their style makeovers compliments of Tyra's glam squad. The hairstylists went to work on creating a new look for each girl giving them all trendsetting hair styles that we here at Black Hair Trends just had to feature.

Now here's the hair trend analysis along with my little two cents about the show and yes I know this is a hair blog but I do watch the show too so I have to splurge my opinion. The new looks are quite drastic for some and expected for others. My two favorite hair trends here are the very long sleek tresses on Kendal and the sexy bouncy waves that Chris rocks so well.
Kacey
Long hair is the dominant trend with Kendal and Kacey getting the long sleek look. Kendal's hair is the longest of this bunch and suits her superb supermodel silhouette while Kacey's hair is long but only goes to the middle of her back as opposed to Kendal's almost waist length hair.

Chris
Chris gets luscious wavy just past the shoulder length tresses while Terra and Liz were given the big chop much to their displeasure. The hair trends as we see here differ from model to model and as such in black hair trends generally you should go with a look that is suited to your facial features and personality. What looks good on you is what works for you.

Liz
I can't fail to mention that I'm writing this article just after Kendal got cut from the bunch , she was preceded by Terra and Kacey respectively.

Terra
However here is where my two cents comes in, I was really disappointed to see Kendal get the axe so early in the show since she is in my opinion the only contestant in this cycle who really looks like she has "IT". Even though the show's producers suggested otherwise in their editing given the clips we saw, Mr. Jay's attitude to her with the sabotage accusations and the bashing from the judges who deemed her as dispassionate at best.

Well, well , well Tyra if you really wanted a real Top Model guess what you won't be having one from Cycle 15 cause you eliminated her in Episode 7. Ann maybe, but booking shows will be a challenge for her and every known supermodel is on top when it comes to booking shows a la Naomi, Chanel Iman, Alek Wek, Liya Kebede and the legendary Iman herself just to name few. Whether it's a Black or Caucasian supermodel they all have one thing in common and it's that they are all runway regulars.
Kendal Brown, supermodel in the making - ANMT Cycle 15
Kendal needs development and any one with a clue of the industry should know that. I think they saw potential but gave up too soon on their best shot to a real runway walking "Top Model" who could actually book shows and Kendal would be the one. However it's not over for her , it would be nice if Kendal gets what I call the "Episode 7 Elimination to Elevation Jennifer Hudson Effect"!

Kendal Brown
J-Hud was also eliminated in the seventh round of the  competition. She took a bashing from the judges especially Simon who had to turn over couple years after and apologize to the only AI contestant who can claim the titles of being both a Grammy & Oscar winner. Now that's what I call sweet revenge; it's called "Significant Success"! Not bad for 7th place, I think Kendal can do the same, just give her some time, some training and development she can work hard and reach the top too cause she sure does look like a supermodel already!
Kendal Brown - Now Tyra this is a what a bookable "top model" looks like
I mean c'mon when you hear a high fashion designer like "the" Diane Von Furstenberg say I would book Kendal right now on the spot what else is there to say that speaks for itself...That's my two cents and now that I let that out we can get back to discussing hair, just keep it locked right here for my next post!

Kendal's last shoot on ANMT but the fashion world awaits her rising.

Rising Star's 2 Very Different Looks.

NBC's Undercovers Star Gugu Mbatha-Raw
It is no secret that British born actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a rising star given her big role as co-lead actress starring opposite the very hot, very fine looking Boris Kodjoe in NBC's new series Undercovers. Her beauty is quite easy on the eye but it is her hair that we like here at Black Hair Trends. Her bi-racial heritage gives her the enviable curly locks which works well to her advantage. In the show she pulls off two very different looks; the au naturale curly coif and the elegant straight long hair. Sistas blessed with long naturally soft wavy or curly hair can pass up the relaxer and extensions and rock two looks just like Gugu does here on screen.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw with straighter, long tresses.
To get a straighter look sans chemicals; just whip out a flat iron and voila the long, elegant tresses appear. Her naturally curly tresses are also a pretty fabulous look. Whether it's naturally curly or simply straight Gugu pulls off both looks quite easily and we give her two thumbs up for sporting her fabulous black tresses, either way no extensions necessary is a refreshingly nice black hair trend. Keep it up Gugu!

Reasons to Get Crochet Braids

Photo: Model with Trendy Crochet Braids Look by Beauty & Braids

Crochet braids hairstyles are perfect for those long cold winter months and are best suited for those of you who want to give your hair a break or just grow out your natural hair. Winter can take a toll on our fragile hair whether it is relaxed or in its natural state. Chemically treated hair such as relaxed and colored hair is more likely to the undergo damage caused during winter months which are very harsh on black hair.

 Perfect for Winter Months
The dryness caused from the harsh cold air along with exposure to dry air in heated rooms and buildings can be very on damaging to black hair. Crochet braids can be used to protect your hair during this season of the year.  Not only would crochet braids protect your hair but it would also keep your head warm during the winter months.

 Regrowing Hair
If you are trying to grow out your natural hair crochet braids is one of your best hair styling options. It gives your hair that much needed rest period without having to compromise on style. Crochet braids are quite trendy and can be created using different types of hair braids. It can also be combined with a cornrow look for versatility.

Low Maintenance
Most women who wear crochet braids enjoy this hairstyle because it offers a chic, low maintenance look. You can wash your hair while wearing crochet braids focusing mainly on the scalp and the hair itself can be maintained with light trimming and by protecting the style while sleeping. It is so easy to wear and offers low maintenance alternative to other hairstyles. With crochet braids you can just get up and go and this makes it one of the most preferred types of braiding styles worn by black women.

Looks Real
Most crochet braid hairstyles look like your real hair depending on the type of braids you use and the braiding technique used. The curly hair braids offers the most natural look and the crochet braiding technique makes it appear as though the hair has grown from your head. It doesn't look as fake as most weaves or other types of braided hairstyles. It also looks real because it suits the nubian features of most black women. Curly crochet braids look more natural than euro looking hairstyles. You can try creating the look yourself or get it done by an experienced crochet braiding stylist in your area.  To get your crochet braids done in the Michigan / Ohio area click here >>.
